Lighting Prac

Ambient lighting, which is boring and for some reason won't let the leather texture on my couch show up. Standard light, evenly lights the whole scene.

Directional lighting, made to simulate sunlight. That couch would be REALLY uncomfortable. It has no give in it whatsoever :D

Point light, which comes from a single point and shines in all directions, like a light bulb. I made it yellow to make it feel more homely :D DIG THAT CRAPPY GRAPHICS CARD, YEAH.

Spot light, pretty self-explanatory. This one is fun cos you can make shadows of DOOM behind stuff. Look at that couch. You just know there's a guy with a machine gun hiding behind it.

Area light, which is sorta weird. It's like a giant box is shining the light down rather than just a point. Not sure when you'd use that.

Volume light, good for candles and fire and other stuff that's really bright at its source but dies pretty rapidly. Hence, orange light. Coulda made a candle to go with it but screw that. You'd get marks on the lovely leather couch.

And now a look at shadows, this is raytracing shadow! Which can go through transparent objects like glass and still cast a bit of a shadow. I'm so proud of that glass on the table and I don't know why. It's a cylinder with the top cut off and the bottom shrunk a bit, then the same texture as I'd already made for the table top applied to it. Mmm, easy. Also, coffee table modelled to look like ours in the bar room. 'Cept ours has round legs and dodads on the feet that I couldn't be screwed modelling.

And depth map shadows, which I can't really see the point of. Supposed to simulate sort of cloudy day shadows, but it can't go though transparent objects. Meh.
