In 21 years, this is the first I've ever drawn Yan alive XD I just had the urge to start drawing scenes from SH, so here's Yan and his lady love, Aliah, sharing a moment of peace in the reeds of the Ra-Lin. Aliah has jewellery made from smoothed river pebbles, not having yet started attaching value to semi-precious stones or the like, but this is something to denote her status as queen. Yan doesn't need any such jewellery cos he's got the yrae feather and also wings, 'spretty obvious who he is.

The colours and feel of this were very heavily inspired by Evening shadows: backwater of the Murray, South Australia which is my favourite piece in the Art Gallery of SA. It's about 2m wide, so standing in front of it is just so serene and calming. The perfectly mirror-calm water and the soft sunset, you can just hear the crickets and cicadas and bush noises as you're standing in front of it, I swear. So I wanted to bring that feel to Raykin, and who better than... my tyrannical... undead antagonist... YEP.

Painted using the dry media brush set I downloaded last year along with all the watercolours and oils and such for the BBoS creatures. I used a whole lot of different pastels for the background and pencils for the characters and details. Much more easily controlled than the watercolours, must say. Lot of fun using these brushes :3
