Melraan Character Reference

[Original]

Despite the contrast with the first three, who are all some level of grumpy and plain in their clothing choice, Melraan is the epitome of the Own. He was the first created when I needed someone for Nimay and Nol to interract with so he was just representative of the Own. He's relaxed, supremely confident and is basically best friends with everyone. He's comfortable with his position, absolutely knows he belongs there and will do his best to make the rest of the boys feel like they belong there, too.

His clothing reflects this confidence, always dressing rich, often in silk, though usually the less pricey natural golden spider silk rather than the bright white. He's got some bright white detailing on this one but that's as far as he'll go for casual stuff. Bright white really is for special occasions. The gold chain is a gift from his daughter, Rair.

SWORD No longer the scorpion, which means nothing, Melraan's sword is now an inside joke with his wife, Aelen. One day, I want to say when they were teenagers and possibly when Melraan's voice was breaking, a hopping mouse bit his finger. Aelen heard a screech and came outside to see Melraan flinging the thing around by its tail before lobbing it far, far away from his person. Melraan maintains the screech was from the mouse, not from him, but of course Aelen teases him for it and warns him whenever there's a big, scary hopping mouse around, to which Melraan plays along and calls them ever-increasing embodiments of evil. So now he's turned them into his sword, with red eyes because, again, evil. Also, later on, Rair asked him why the mice on his sword were dropping little poo nuggets on his sword. 'What? No, that's the blood of their enemies.' '...No, Papa, it's poo.' 'All right, fine, it's poo,' because Melraan knows better than to argue with a three-year-old, especially when Aelen's cackling in the background.

FLEET has also had a makeover, because her design was near-identical to Kurae's Charcoal. I'm going to assume it was a different brown pencil I used and it just scanned poorly, but they're still too similar. So Fleet now has the markings of an eastern barred bandicoot--mousey brown with pale bands down the backs of the front forelegs, and three across the (significantly less voluptuous) hindquarters, plus a pale mane and tail. She keeps the name Fleet, cos I like it, and because Raykinians wouldn't know what a bandicoot is since they live in scrubby underbrush, not desert. I know, though, so it makes me happy. Named Fleet because, before Mongrel signed up, she was the fastest in the Own by a long shot.
